Hondarribia and Irun

The Txingudi estuary, at the mouth of the River Bidasoa, is an area of great natural and ornithological value, designated as an SPA (Special Protection Area for Birds) and an SCI (Site of Community Importance) within the Natura 2000 network. Furthermore, the Plaiaundi Ecological Park, which forms part of this area, is included on the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.

Its marshes, islands and intertidal lagoons are home to a wide variety of birds throughout the year: waders, ducks, herons, kingfishers and even ospreys during their migration.

Similarly, the marshes of Jaizubia, Plaiaundi and the area around the Bidasoa form a group of ecosystems that are very accessible to visitors, families and nature lovers.

A birding experience in Txingudi is to enjoy a peaceful landscape – close to the city, yet completely natural – where every tide and every season offers a different view.
