Aste Nagusia, the city at festival time

Aste Nagusia, Bilbao’s festival week, is the city’s most iconic festival and one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year. For nine days in August, Bilbao is transformed with concerts, street theatre, fireworks, cultural activities and events for all ages, always accompanied by the unmistakable figure of Marijaia, the festival’s symbol.

Bilbao’s city centre and Old Town fill with festive atmosphere thanks to the street bands and the traditional txosnas, creating a meeting place where music, food and tradition turn Bilbao into an open, festive city, where visitors can join together with locals for a unique celebration.
