The Cathedral of Saint Mary is one of Vitoria-Gasteiz’s most iconic monuments and a unique example of heritage restoration. Thanks to the “Open for Works” project, you’ll be able to explore the interior and gain a first-hand understanding of the complex restoration process that has made it possible to preserve this extraordinary medieval building. During your visit, you’ll find out about its history, its architecture and the techniques used to restore its stability, in a tour that combines heritage, science and culture in a fascinating educational experience.
Outside, you’ll find a sculpture in honour of the writer Ken Follett, who drew inspiration from the cathedral on writing the second part of The Pillars of the Earth.
